G'day Friends!

Tom Wilson, Manager of The Hen House here, hoping you're all continuing to fight the plague, work hard and stay creative.

It's been fantastic to watch how busy everyone is getting, with the second half of the year in full swing! Be sure to keep us up to date with any events, music or shows your band are doing, we love to see it!

Remember, if we are ever full for any session, you can always add yourself to our Waiting List! We monitor this closely for cancelations and will notify you ASAP if your preferred time becomes available!

Stolen Instruments - Still Being Found!

What a great story! A guitar stolen almost 45 years ago was just returned to it's owner! Randy Bachman's Gretsch was pinched in Toronto in 1978, and was bought by an unsuspecting man in Tokyo in late 2014. The guitar was famous for Bachman writing the massive hit 'American Woman' on this guitar. We've seen tales of this before, with John Lennon's Gibson Acoustic found after 45 years, Zakk Wyldes Les Pauil found after 17 years, and Sonic Youth's gear returned after 7! If you've ever had gear stolen - don't give up hope! You can read more here

The Aardvark Closes It's Doors

Another loved live music venue bites the dust! The Aardvark in North Freo (formally The Norfolk Basement, amongst many other names) will be officially shutting it's doors at the end of October due to the toll that the recent pandemic took. Hosting shows in the basement for 22 years now, the Aardvark has seen amazing bands like Spacey Jane, Stella Donnelly, Great Gable, Death By Denim, Noah Dillon, Sly Withers and more cutting their teeth in that room. Vale the dungeon!

How To Best Use Our Neumann TLM102!

If you've used our amazing Recording Studio. you'd know how much you can get out of the Neumann TLM102! A great mic for a variety of purposes, so I thought I'd share some tips and tricks!
It's great mic, and trial and error will tell you where it should be placed for each source. Proximity will give a bass bump, which varies with distance and source. It is a wider cardioid, so will pick up a lot of ambience at a distance. It has no filter, and is sensitive to low frequency vibration. It has a high SPL limit, it is unlikely you will overload this mic. If using for vocals up close, make sure you're using our pop filter, and if using for acoustic guitars, try placing 14~ inches in front of the 12th-14th fret for a really warm, not overly hyped sound!

The Charismatic Voice Podcast

It's the vocalists turn! Finally a podcast for our favourite members of the band who don't have to being any gear to rehearsals. I stumbled across The Charismatic Voice on YouTube with her reaction videos to popular metal songs. Elizabeth Zharoff is vocal coach, producer, YouTuber, and internationally acclaimed opera singer with multiple degrees and performance credits throughout Europe, Asia, and America.
She chats with iconic musicians and artists from around the world, digging deep into their histories, vocal techniques, and behind-the-scenes happenings throughout their careers. Start here with this awesome episode featuring Devin Townsend
