Universal Removes Music From TikTok
In what's been a dramatic week in the world of music publishing, Universal has officially begun withdrawing their music from TikTok. This all started as negotiations between the two parties broke down, with UMG citing agreements could not be made on “appropriate compensation for our artists and songwriters, protecting human artists from the harmful effects of AI, and online safety for TikTok’s users”.
As a result, its full catalog – including around 3 million recorded music tracks, and around 4 million songs whose publishing is represented by UMG – will no longer be legally cleared for use on TikTok. You can read more about it here!
Triple J Top 100 - Wrapped Up!
Last weekend was the yearly Triple J Top 100 (and 200) countdown, with Doja Cat taking out the coveted #1 spot. There was a noticeable increase in US artists especially in the pop category, but how do all the numbers break down? You can check it out in this great article here! With roughly 2.3 million votes cast, it's interesting to see what demographics are involved, and what artists are breaking trends and records!
