G'day Friends!

Tom Wilson, Manager of The Hen House here, hoping you're all continuing to stay warm, busy and creative!

Through the brutal weather this past week, it's so encouraging to see that it slows no one down! Everyones keeping busy!

Remember, if we are ever full for any session, you can always add yourself to our Waiting List! We monitor this closely for cancelations and will notify you ASAP if your preferred time becomes available!

TikTok - The New Music Streaming Service?

A new player enters the game! This past week, TikTok has filed patents for “TikTok music”, a strong hint that the platform has got a music streaming app in the works. ByteDance (TikTok’s parent company) filed a trademark application in May with the US Patent and Trademark Office, not long after a “TikTok Music” trademark was filed in Australia last year. According to the filing, this service would let users purchase, play, share and download music. It would also allow users to create, share and recommend playlists, comment on music as well as livestream audio and video. Is there room for another music service, or will the words fastest growing app overshadow the likes of Spotify and Apple Music? Time will tell!

Mo Ostin - The Best Record Exec There Was!

Music industry legend Mo Ostin passed away this past week at the age of 95, what an innings! Ostin is known for his signing of The Kinks and Jimi Hendrix in the mid-60s, eventually ending up as the chairman & CEO of Warner/Reprise Records for over 30 years - during which time they released records by the likes of Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, Van Morrison, the Grateful Dead, Paul Simon, Fleetwood Mac, Steely Dan, Tom Petty, Prince, Van Halen, the Who, and RHCP - just to name a few! He later headed up Dreamworks Records with Steven Spielberg and David Geffen, signing more artists and developing music for film use. Not many of these characters left around - Ostin was well known for his dedication and assistance in helping artists realise their vision. Vale Mo Ostin!

Sly Withers Say Goodbye To Gardens!

Our best buds Sly Withers are throwing a big old last minute going away party this Sunday! And what a way to send off their debut album in style. From hearing some of these riffs written here at the studios, eventually becoming fully fledged songs and now being heard all around the country, couldn't be more stoked for these guys! Pulling a huge double set (Acoustic 12pm-4pm, full band 6pm-10pm), you're gonna get some bang for your buck plus some amazing supports, so get on down and help the fellas send this one off in style!

Music Production Made Simple Podcast - FL Studio

We love seeing some of the amazing producers using our Recording Studio, and it's been fascinating to learn peoples production styles, preferences and techniques! I see a lot of people using FL Studio, so I thought I'd dig up a great podcast if you're just getting in to beat production using FL! This podcast is short, sweet and covers tonnes of the areas you'll want to know about before jumping into FL and cooking up some beats, so start off here with this episode on Creating Melodies Using Sound Selection!
