G'day Friends!

Tom Wilson, Manager of The Hen House here, hoping you're keeping well.

We say goodbye to October this week and bring on the next 8 weeks of the year, make sure you're wasting no time getting those creative goals pursued before having a nice Xmas break!

We'd also like to send our condolences to the family and friends of Ian Stuart who recently passed away. Ian was a wealth of knowledge and advice for bands playing in Perth, and for anyone who passed through Amplifier Bar - you'd know just how amazing a sound engineer and person Ian was. Vale Ian Stuart!

Department of Culture and Arts Survey

The Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries (DLGSC) is seeking input from creative practitioners, artists, arts workers and arts organisations to help review how services are delivered to the culture and arts sector. By completing their online survey, you will be helping to advise the WA Government how to best support and deliver professional development and capacity building services to the sector.
Make sure you complete the survey here, and get it done before 7/11!

Spotify to Make Royalty Changes

Spotify is set to make some big changes as to how they pay out artists, to more accurately reflect plays and to also avoid fraud. The three main changes will be
- Introducing a threshold of minimum annual streams before a track starts generating royalties on Spotify – in a move expected to de-monetize a portion of tracks that previously absorbed 0.5% of the service’s royalty pool.
- Financially penalizing distributors of music – labels included – when fraudulent activity is detected on tracks that they’ve uploaded to Spotify
- Introducing a minimum length of play-time that each non-music ‘noise’ track must reach in order to generate royalties.

Sounds like they're some pretty positive changes! You can read more about it all here

Gyroscope @ Indi Bar This Weekend!

Our best buds Gyroscope are putting on one hell of a show for one hell of a good cause! The show will support a young family during a challenging time after the loss of their little boy, and to honour his courage and the legacy he leaves behind. The fundraiser will take place this Saturday Oct 28 at the Indi Bar in Scarborough, with support from Pretty Uglys, The Deenys, and Bush Telly. All acts will be donating their performance to support the family. Make sure yoy get tickets here!
